Updated August 2026
If you've been searching homes around Opelika and kept landing on cottages that back up to a golf course, you've found National Village.
National Village is a residential golf community at 4209 Robert Trent Jones Trail, Opelika, AL 36801, built around the Grand National golf complex on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. It's laid out as five named neighborhoods, and the homes are marketed as cottage-styled. Buying one comes with a membership to the Auburn Marriott Opelika Resort & Spa at Grand National (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026).
The Bottom Line
- Five neighborhoods. The Yards, The Links, Stone Lake, Quail Ridge, and Eagle Place (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026).
- Golf on site. Grand National runs 54 holes across three courses around 600-acre Lake Saugahatchee, with 32 of the 54 holes along the shoreline (Source: Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, accessed August 2026).
- Advertised pricing. New construction is marketed from the $400,000s to $1M+, and immediate-delivery homes from the $400s. That's builder advertised pricing, not sold data (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026).
- Lawn care sits inside the dues. POA dues cover lawn maintenance for common areas, entrances, and private homes. The dollar amount isn't published (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026).
- The city backdrop. Opelika's residential median sold price was $336,487 on 94 closings in July 2026 (Source: Lee County Association of REALTORS®, Opelika, July 2026). Nothing in that data set is National Village specific.

Five neighborhoods inside National Village
National Village isn't one uniform block of houses. The community's own site organizes it into five named neighborhoods: The Yards, The Links, Stone Lake, Quail Ridge, and Eagle Place (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026).
What the site doesn't publish is how those five differ from one another. Price band, home type, lot size, which ones are still selling and which are built out, none of it is spelled out. That's a sales office question, and it's the first one I'd ask. If you tour, ask neighborhood by neighborhood rather than community wide.
Homes are marketed as cottage-styled. Past that, square footage, bedroom counts, lot dimensions, and architectural covenants aren't published on the community site. Ask for the covenants in writing before you fall in love with a floor plan.
The golf: Grand National's 54 holes
Grand National is the reason this community exists, and it's a serious golf property.
There are 54 holes: the Lake Course at 18, the Links Course at 18, and an 18-hole par-3 Short Course. The whole complex wraps 600-acre Lake Saugahatchee, and 32 of the 54 holes sit along the shoreline (Source: Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, accessed August 2026). The Trail's own site quotes Robert Trent Jones, Sr. describing the property as "the single greatest natural site for golf he had ever seen" (Source: Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, accessed August 2026).
Grand National is part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, owned by the Retirement Systems of Alabama and managed by SunBelt Golf Corporation. It has hosted NCAA Division I National Championships, plus LPGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, Symetra Tour, and PGA Tour competitions. The Trail's page doesn't name specific years or events (Source: Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, accessed August 2026).
For homeowners, the Short Course is free, and the Links and Lake courses come at a discount. The RTJ Trail Card extends discounts to 11 Trail complexes, with Ross Bridge and Lakewood excluded (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026).
Amenities, and what the POA dues actually cover
The Auburn Marriott Opelika Resort & Spa at Grand National functions as the community's clubhouse, and a home purchase includes membership to it (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026).
Here is the amenity set from the community's own site, accessed August 2026:
- A 4,200 square foot pool complex with three outdoor pools, whirlpools, waterfalls, fire pits, and a Splash bar
- A heated indoor pool with a whirlpool, seasonally available
- Roughly 300 acres of green space, with wooded nature trails linking the Grand National Parkway entrance, the lakes, the Marriott, and the golf facilities
- Tennis facilities and pickleball courts
- A fitness room at the resort
- The Fairway Sports Bar and resort dining
- Conference and event facilities
- Boating and fishing on Saugahatchee Lake, plus four smaller stocked lakes inside the community
Now the dues. POA dues cover lawn maintenance for common areas, entrances, and private homes (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026). Read that last part twice. Lawn care on your own lot is inside the dues, not just the grass at the front entrance. That matters if you travel, and it matters if pushing a mower through an Alabama July isn't your idea of a Saturday.
What the site doesn't publish is the dollar amount. Not a figure, not a range. Get the current dues schedule, the reserve study, and the assessment history from the POA in writing before you go under contract.
Internet: Opelika's municipal fiber
National Village markets high-speed fiber, tied to Opelika being the first city in Alabama to build a municipal gigabit fiber network (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026).
If you work from home, or your job is following you here, confirm the service address and the available plan tiers with the provider before closing. A community marketing a network and a specific lot having it lit are two different things.
Schools serving the Opelika area
Opelika City Schools runs three primary-to-intermediate feeder patterns: Carver Primary to West Forest Intermediate, Jeter Primary to Morris Avenue Intermediate, and Southview Primary to Northside Intermediate. Every student then attends Fox Run School for 6th grade, Opelika Middle School for 7th and 8th, and Opelika High School for 9th through 12th (Source: Opelika City Schools, accessed August 2026).
Which zone a specific National Village address falls in is a question for the district. Confirm assignment for your exact address with the Board of Education at 334-745-9700, or against the district's own zoning map. Ask at the same time whether the address is served by Opelika City Schools or by Lee County Schools. Residency verification takes a mortgage statement or deed, or a lease, plus a secondary document, handled in person at the Enrollment Center at 1206 Denson Drive (Source: Opelika City Schools, accessed August 2026).
What homes cost, and the Opelika market around them
National Village advertises new construction from the $400,000s to $1M+, with immediate-delivery homes from the $400s (Source: National Village, accessed August 2026). Those are builder advertised prices rather than closed sales, and advertised pricing moves.
A boundary note before the numbers. The Lee County Association of REALTORS® reports residential sold data in three cuts: Opelika, Auburn, and All Areas. What follows is the Opelika cut, which covers the city National Village sits in. All Areas covers the association's full multi-county footprint, so it is wider than Lee County, not narrower. Neither cut is a National Village number or any subdivision number. Read this as the Opelika market a National Village purchase happens inside, not as what National Village homes sell for.
In July 2026, the Opelika residential median sold price was $336,487 on 94 closings, and the All Areas median was $406,260 on 239 closings (Source: Lee County Association of REALTORS®, July 2026). Year over year from July 2025, the Opelika median rose about 2.6% (from $327,845) while closings rose about 9.3% (from 86). All Areas moved the other way on volume: the median rose about 4.9% (from $387,150) while closings fell about 8.1% (from 260). Both sets of percentages are comparisons of the monthly figures cited here, not separately published statistics.
Opelika's median hasn't done anything dramatic. Across January through July in both 2025 and 2026, the Opelika monthly median stayed inside a fairly narrow band, roughly $310,000 to $369,342 (Source: Lee County Association of REALTORS®, Opelika, January through July 2025 and 2026). February 2026 is the one month that stands clearly above the rest.

Bar labels are rounded to the nearest hundred dollars; exact figures appear in the text. This is an Opelika city figure, not a National Village or subdivision figure.
Volume is the part that swings. Opelika closings ran from 41 in January 2026 to 94 in July 2026, which is the seasonality you feel as a buyer in spring and as a seller in fall. Adding January through July together, Opelika closings went from 427 in 2025 to 453 in 2026, about 6.1% more (Source: Lee County Association of REALTORS®, Opelika, January through July 2025 and 2026; cumulative totals computed from the monthly figures).

This data set ends with July 2026, so nothing above reflects August 2026 or later.
Questions I'd ask before writing an offer
None of these are published on the community's own site as of August 2026, and every one of them changes the math on a purchase.
- What are the current POA dues, what's in the reserve study, and what does the assessment history look like?
- How does the resort membership work? Is it included permanently, does it carry a recurring cost, and does it convey to the next owner?
- Which of the five neighborhoods are still selling, and how do they differ on price band and home type?
- Are short-term rentals permitted, and does the membership convey to a renter?
- What are the architectural covenants, and who enforces them?
- What's the total community acreage and the planned home count at build-out, per the developer?
- Is any section of the community age-restricted? The community's own materials don't advertise an age restriction. Confirm with the POA.
- Which school zone serves the specific address, confirmed with the district?
Get the answers in writing. A sales office is glad to give you a verbal, and a verbal isn't a covenant.
How it compares with other neighborhoods around Auburn and Opelika
National Village is a specific kind of purchase: golf, resort amenities, lawn maintenance inside the dues, and new construction advertised in the $400,000s and up. It isn't the only thing Opelika has, and it isn't the only thing worth walking.
If you're still narrowing the field, I put together a guide to the neighborhoods in Opelika that covers the wider set, and you can browse my Opelika neighborhood guide for listings and area detail in one place. There's also a relocation guide to Opelika if you're coming from out of state and want the town before the subdivisions.
Buyers comparing across the county usually end up looking at Auburn too. Yarbrough Farms and Cary Woods are the two Auburn profiles I'd read next.
For scale, Opelika's population was 32,820 as of the ACS 2024 five-year estimates (Source: Census Reporter, ACS 2024 5-year, Opelika city, Alabama). That's a city-wide figure covering all of Opelika, not National Village and not any single subdivision.

Let's talk about it
If National Village is on your list, I'll walk it with you, and I'll ask the sales office the eight questions above so you don't have to. If it turns out not to be the fit, that's a good outcome too. I'd rather you buy the right house in the right pocket of Lee County than the first one with a good view of a fairway.
Call or text me and tell me what you're actually looking for. I'd love to help.
